Comparison of Several Algorithms for SARRaw Data Compression

The data compression techniques for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) raw data are necessary to reduce the huge amount of collected data for downlink to a ground station within the band constraints. The paper presented a review of current SAR raw data compression techniques classified into three different categories according to the method of quantization, scalar or vector, and to the transform coding of compression. By using the airborne SAR raw data, a comparison of images and quality parameters computed on the image about those algorithms were presented. The vector techniques exhibit an interesting performance/complexity trade-off, with respect to scalar techniques and transform domain coding techniques.
