Provides a theoretical and empirical background for adult development and ageing. Classic and recent research is emphasized throughout, and race, gender, class, culture and ethnicity are presented as moderating influences of development. The book also provides coverage of family and interpersonal issues - topics which have been of interest in the field of gerontology. Women's issues are also stressed, and the text aims to encourage students to think critically.
