Starting of large motors-methods and economics

The available starting methods are discussed for motors above 3000 hp, focusing on technical and economic aspects. The following schemes are discussed: direct online, reactor start, auto transformer start, capacitor start, capative transformer start, and frequency start. A review of the network conditions which favor a particular starting method is given. A guide is given for the selection of starting methods on the basis of type of driven equipment, network conditions, and cost.<<ETX>>
