Integrated inspection strategy model with inspection errors and positive inspection time lengths

Abstract This paper extends an integrated model of production maintenance and quality to consider the possibilities of inspection errors and allow positive time lengths for inspection. These generalizations are important because in many situations checking demands a considerable amount of time and there may be inspection errors due to human or technological limitations. We derive the optimal solutions for the durations of the first inspection interval, the number of inspections, the economic production quantity (EPQ) and the preventive maintenance (PM) level. Numerical analyses are performed to illustrate important aspects of the developed model.
