MECHANICS OF BONE FRACTURE

A concise review of the current knowledge concerning the mechanics of fracture and healing of compact bones is presented. The survey is not intended to be exhaustive, yet an attempt was made to at least touch on all major aspects of the subject covered. The review is written primarily for the nonspecialist who may or may not have a background in medicine. It includes a discussion of the constitution and structure of bone, mechanical properties of bones, fracture of bones, mechanical aspects of healing of fractures, mechanical models of bone material, and recommendations for future research.
