Über die Normalpotentiale des Quecksilbers und die Disproportionierung: 2 HgI ⇌ Hg0 + HgII

The apparent equilibrium constant of the reaction: has been determined in the temperature range from 0–40° C and in a series of solutions differing in ionic strength, in order to obtain the thermodynamic value of the constant. The result is in excellent agreement with the oxidation potentials of mercury taken from the literature. The values of ΔF, ΔH and ΔS of the above reaction have been evalueated.
