Frequency Block-Dependent Online Probabilistic Transmission Power Control of Base Stations in Heterogeneous Networks

In this paper, we extend our previously reported online probabilistic transmission power control method for base stations (BSs) in heterogeneous networks in order to accommodate the case where the overall system bandwidth of BSs is divided into multiple frequency blocks and the transmission power control is applied on a per-frequency block basis. In the previous method, the transmission power of each BS is independently controlled online in a probabilistic manner based on the observed system throughput level and transmission power state at each time, without relying on the cooperation between BSs. By using the proposed frequency block-dependent online probabilistic transmission power control, the granularity of the transmission power control is enhanced and inter-cell interference coordination is achieved, which results in a further gain in system throughput. Computer simulation results considering the user mobility quantitatively show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
