Economic evaluation and effectiveness of mnrega in Punjab: A case study

The present study was conducted in Sangrur district of Punjab to assess economic evaluation and effectiveness of MNREGA. The primary data was collected from 50 participating and 50 non-participating households in MNREGA from two blocks. The study throws light on the various employment activities under MNREGA. The study shows that although labourers are getting economic benefit. From MNREGA, they are unhappy regarding two issues: (i) according to them they are not getting sufficient number of days to work under this scheme and (ii) there is delay in payment which affects their day to day activities. The programme encouraged greater female work participation and was found to have contributed to the socio-economic empowerment of the rural poor, especially women.
