Pazner–Schmeidler rules in large societies

Abstract In this paper we consider the fair division problem for large societies where the bundle of goods to be divided is fixed but societies are allowed to change. We provide a characterization of Pazner–Schmeidler's egalitarian-equivalent rules [Pazner, E., Schmeidler, D., 1978. Egalitarian-equivalent allocations: A new concept of economic equity. Q. J. Econ. 92, 671–687.] by the axioms of efficiency, the equal split lower bound for utilities, and solidarity with respect to changes in society.
