Exploration of structural stability: A computer implementation

In this paper, the education of structural stability is viewed from the perspective of a range of analysis techniques emphasizing the exploratory nature of not only instability phenomenon, but also engineering problems, in general. The purpose of this research was to develop a computational‐based educational platform upon which to perform “experimental” tests. Three aspects of this work are discussed: the philosophy of the platform, the design concepts behind its implementation, and the programme itself. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
