An interesting extension of present pattern recognition and image processing technologies is to apply them to spatio-temporal series of images. A project is ongoing to develop hardware and software to study three dimensional images in biomedicine. The primary goal is to support embryogenesis study of nematodes. The system has been developed on VAX 11/750 and PDP 11/70. Currently two dimensional optical dissect images are analized interactively, and reconstructed into three dimensional cellular images.
