Broadband WAIM Metasurface Structure for Electronically Beam Scanning Holographic Antenna for Ku-Band Satellite Communications

This paper presents a novel, low-profile, broadband, wide-angle impedance matching (WAIM) metasurace structure for significant gain improvement of liquid crystal (LC)-based, holographic beam scanning, radial aperture antennas. The WAIM provides up to 5 dB and 3 dB gain improvement over Rx and Tx satellite Ku-band frequencies, respectively, at all scan angles (0 to 60 deg), and for both horizontal and vertical polarizations.
