Laser induced interstitial thermotherapy LITT versus high-frequency induced thermotherapy HFTT

Our study compares a newly developped high-frequency thermotherapy (HFTT) applicator system to a well known Nd :YAG laser system for laser induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT). In order to avoid tissue drying and carbonization effects this applicator system is perfused with ionic fluid through microperforations in the active area. We produced thermal damages in different tissues comparing the results. On-line monitoring was performed with a high definition ultrasound unit. Our results suggest that (i) HFTT is easier to apply (ii) HFTT shows superior results compared to LITT.
