Some force plane diagrams for plane strain slip-line fields

Abstract The force plane diagram—simply drawn from force equilibrium considerations—enables the force on any plane inside a region covered by a slip-line field (s.l.f.) to be immediately determined. Its recommendations are simplicity, ease of application and association with well understood approaches to equilibrium considerations in engineering situations. Force plane diagrams used in conjunction with a s.l.f. are new. Portions of these diagrams have quite characteristic shapes. Several examples are given for different working processes.
