Electronic Transition Lasers

Progress in the development of short wavelength lasers is followed from 1973 to the present. A brief description is given of the various initiation techniques employed as well as of some representative laser systems. This paper is organized in such a way as to provide a historical perspective of research in this area and to provide suggestions for future research.
