Performance evaluation of Optical Burst Switched mesh networks with Localized Functional Resources

This work investigates the performance of Optical Burst Switched (OBS) mesh networks using Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Localized Functional Resources (LFC). These OBS networks were designed to have the same amount of wavelengths in all the links of a mesh topology, but some nodes or links chosen from the knowledge of network utilization, have additional functional resources as Wavelength Converters (WC) and Deflection Routing (DR) capability. The preliminary results show that the Localized Functional Resources can be a good choice to increase the performance of future Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN) without adding new wavelengths to the links.
