Design and Analysis of a Trilateral Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor with Slotless Ring Windings for Transport Systems

Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) with ring windings is a suitable choice for transport systems, because of the high utilization of armature and unique winding structures. This paper proposes a novel trilateral PMLSM with slotless ring windings, which has a high thrust density and great performance. The structure and operating principle of the novel trilateral PMLSM are introduced, and the magnetic fields are analyzed by the equivalent magnetizing current (EMC) method. Then the features of electromagnetic forces in the novel motor are optimized by finite-element method (FEM). The paper provides the fundamental work of the novel trilateral PMLSM with slotless ring windings in transport systems, the optimized average thrust of motor is 4140 N and the optimized thrust ripple is 0.97%.
