VIBRATION CONTROL OF A LONG-SPAN SUSPENDED STRUCTURE CONSIDERING HUMAN COMFORT

The dynamic characteristic of a long-span suspended structure is complicated and the walking load will cause bigger vibration of floor.Based on dynamic characteristic study of a long-span suspension structure, several sets of multiple tuned mass dampers(MTMD) are put forward to control the vertical vibration of the long-span suspension structure under pedestrian excitation. The applicable design method for setting locations and parameters of dampers is presented. The natural frequency of each single tuned mass damper can be determined with the structure vertical natural frequencies and the frequencies of pedestrian excitation.Analysis results of an engineering example prove that this method can effectively reduce the floor vertical vibration of the long-span suspension structure under fast walk and slow walk excitations. The average vibration reduction efficiency can reach 20% and the human comfort request under pedestrian excitation is satisfied.
