Effect of species and adhesive formulation in the laminated veneer lumber (LVL) of Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus saligna and Eucalyptus urograndis.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the properties of laminated veneer lumber produced with different species of Eucalyptus and phenol-formaldehyde adhesive formulations. The species used were Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus saligna and Eucalyptus urograndis, collected from forest plantation located in Bituruna-PR and the adhesive formulations were prepared at solids contents of 47% (A), 45% (B ), 36% (C) and 29% (D). The experimental design consisted of a completely randomized design in a factorial arrangement (3x4), being three species and four formulations, totaling 12 treatments. The results indicated that all species have potential for the production of laminated veneer lumber, especially the E. saligna. Regarding the different formulations, it was found that the reduction of the solids content of the glue beats did not decrease the mechanical resistance, thus, allowing to maximize the production costs with adhesive.
