FTLBS: Fault Tolerant Load Balancing Scheme in Wireless Sensor Network

In wireless sensor network (WSN) hundreds or thousands of sensor nodes perform their sensing and transmitting tasks independently. Due to adverse environment, the probability of fault occurrence is very high in wireless sensor network. Higher frequency of fault occurrence decreases the performance as well as lifetime of WSN. The ability of fault tolerance is a primary metric of good wireless sensor network. Energy is an imperative issue in WSN. The sensor nodes include very small battery power and once the nodes are deployed they cannot be recharged or replaced. In this paper, we propose a fault tolerant load balancing scheme (FTLBS) to increase fault tolerability and lifetime of sensor network. The proposed scheme organizes the entire sensor network into groups and levels. In this technique we propose multipath data transmission technique for fault tolerance and the transmission load is balanced by varying group size. It dynamically selects a route based on fitness of the nodes. This approach delivers data efficiently with minimum delay even in faulty network. The simulation results establish that our proposed work gives better performance compared to existing fault tolerant methods.
