Analytical investigation of the polaron problem

Analytical approximations for the ground state energy of the polaron and for its effective mass are obtained throughout the entire range of the electron-phonon interaction constant. The detailed structure of the phase transition in the polaron system is considered on the basis of these results. Numerical calculations corroborate the analytical conclusions.
