The FPGA implementation of spectrum peak search in MUSIC algorithm

Spectrum peak search (SPS) is the final step of MUSIC algorithm, the amount of computations has increased a lot with the improvement of accuracy requirement and the expansion of search scope. In this paper, a novel circuit is designed to realize two-dimensional spectrum peak search, the search scope of azimuth and pitch are −180∼180 degree and 0∼90 degree. There is the logic circuit instead of memory circuit used to get direction vector in real time, this method can save much storage resource with higher accuracy and wider search scope. In order to reduce the execution time, spectrum peak search can be done in eight different azimuth scope concurrently according to the symmetry of direction vector, besides, this paper adopts a search means named two-step search to reduce the scale of computation. Finally, this paper gives the spectrum peak search hardware implementation on FPGA which attains a good compromise in area and speed. The FPGA verification result shows that the presented method accomplishes one time in 2.988ms with the search precision of 0.1 degree.
