Application of Graph Theory in Approach for Automatically Converting BPA Models into PSCAD/EMTDC Models

Electromechanical transient simulation software BPA is widely applied by departments to work on power system planning,scheduling and operation.When simulation of a power system has to be performed by PSCAD/EMTDC software,usually it is necessary to rebuild the model of the power system on the platform of PSCAD/EMTDC manually based on the data file of topological structure and element parameters in the model of the same power system on the platform of BPA.This process is time consuming,laborious and easy to make mistakes.Based on incidence matrix and depth-first research in graph theory,firstly according to the data of the power system on BPA platform a network tree was regenerated on PSCAD/EMTDC platform;then the coordinates of network nodes were calculated to determine the structure and parameter of element models to complete the conversion of power system data in the model on BPA platform to the model on PSCAD/EMTDC platform.The automatically converted system network possesses the same topological structure as the original system network and equivalent parameters,thus both efficiency and accuracy of rebuilding power system model on PSCAD/EMTDC platform are improved..
