Network discharge control using a fuzzy logic approach

Sewer networks are usually controlled by a hierarchical control system. This system has a three-layer structure: the lower level consists of the hardware control loops from the storage reservoirs, the medium level gives the setpoint for the control loops from the lower level and upper level has a supervisory role of the entire system. This paper approaches the medium control level by using fuzzy logic controllers in order to avoid or at least lead to a significant reduction of discharges from the sewer networks. The proposed structure is validated through numerical simulation.
