Model predictive control method for cascaded bi-directional DC-DC converter applied to a stand-alone photovoltaic energy storage system

A Model Predictive Control (MPC) method is proposed for cascaded bi-directional DC-DC converter in this paper. Building the predictive models and minimizing the cost function are included in this method. Predictive values of state variables can be obtained according to the predictive models, which include the first chopper inductor current and the second chopper inductor current, etc. The cost function is based on the system requirements, and the switching state which minimizes the cost function is selected to be the control signal in the following sampling period. Simulation and experimental results show high static/dynamic performances of the energy storage system.
