Accurate finite element analysis of large displacements in skeletal frames

Abstract The large displacement analysis of skeletal structures must use large displacement geometry. The implications of this are examined from the point of view of basic theory within the limitation of the Love-Kirchoff assumption and procedures are outlined for a finite element analysis in which the full load may be applied in a single step.
