Spacecraft on-board SAR image generation for Eos-type missions

An assessment of feasibility is provided for onboard SAR (synthetic-aperture radar) image generation for Eos (Earth Observing System)-type missions. Specifically, a processor architecture is proposed using a frequency-domain processor for range correlation and a modular fault-tolerant time-domain processor for azimuth correlation. It is shown that using available space qualifiable technology to implement the proposed architecture, an onboard SAR processor having acceptable power, mass, and fault-tolerant characteristics should be feasible for Eos-type applications. >
