Noise Conversion in Photonic-Microwave Filters

This paper reports on the phase-to-intensity noise conversion of transversal filters used for intensity noise suppression for semiconductor lasers. In these applications the phase-to-intensity noise characteristic is the main limiting factor of the noise reduction. We investigate this phenomenon in transversal optical filters assuming both phase and intensity noise at their input. Additionally the noise conversion is analyzed and compared at different points of the filter response.
