RCS Analysis and Application of Extended Ground Plate Trihedral Reflectors

When triangular trihedral reflector is used for sea surface target, its RCS characteristic is easily affected by sea environment, and the RCS value decreases quickly at low grazing angles. To solve these problems, the RCS of an infinite ground plate trihedral reflector is analyzed, and a computing formula is given, with which the RCS of a finite extended ground plate trihedral reflector can be computed. The computing result is compared with that of a standard trihedral reflector, which shows that a finite extended ground plate trihedral reflector has a higher RCS at low grazing angles. Therefore, finite extended ground plate trihedral reflectors can be considered to replace triangular trihedral reflectors in test tasks of low ballistic missiles.
