Effects of the Computer-Assisted Gallery Activity Program on Student Motivation and Engagement in College Classes

Gallery activity has been regarded as an ideal strategy when American college professors use it to redesign their instruction. When computers and Internet are becoming more and more popular, the computer-assisted gallery activity program demonstrates more advantages in China’s colleges. The purpose of this paper is to compare the key components of the computer-assisted gallery activity program with the MUSIC Model of academic motivation, which is a framework of instructional strategies based on the current motivation research and theory. Also, this paper illustrates how computer and Internet help gallery activity program run more smoothly through the online network than the traditional one. The results of the analysis indicates that the computer-assisted gallery activity program is consistent with the five principles of the MUSIC model of motivation. This paper implies that college professors could use the gallery activity in their teaching to motivate their students to engage in their learning.
