Information Access for Decision Makers

An essential aspect of any effective decision-making process is the availability of sufficient relevant information. Gathering and analysing information plays an important part in this process (see Chapter 1), and the assumption is that increasingly people will rely on the use of powerful personal computers (PCs) to access computer-based information sources via communications networks. Such networked systems are now seen as the source of much of the information required for a wide range of decision making within large business organizations, covering strategic, tactical and operational decisions. In addition, the view is now being taken that this approach will spread to smaller organizations and to individuals in their private lives.
