CLIMATE RESPONSIVE MODULAR BUILDING SKIN DESIGN STRATEGY:A CASE STUDY OF THE-STUDIO

This paper is a case study on the THE-STUDIO(Tsinghua Eco-Studio) in Gui'an New Area, China, which applies the Climate Responsive Design into the building skin system centering on the rattan weaving skin and the double-skin aspiratory curtain wall, thus succeeding in dealing with the multiple challenges of sun-shading, ventilation, lighting, insulation, and energy conservation. In addition, the combination of the Climate Responsive Design and the Modular System forms a building skin design strategy which runs throughout the whole process of decision, design and construction, which meets the requirement of rapid construction by prefabricating building skin, and further achieve the final target of sustainability and low energy consumption.
