A way to improve the accuracy of a co-ordinate measuring machine

Abstract This work is devoted to the problems of software correction of the systematic errors of Co-ordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). In order to determine the errors of CMM a volumetric technique - a three-dimensional matrix or lattice - is used to represent the working volume of the machine. Volumetric error correction implies interpolating between known errors stored in the lattice for correcting errors at any given point in the working volume of the machine. The measured data are transformed into parametric form with real-time parametric error correction performed using fast algorithms and processors. The paper contains a short description of the identification of the model for error correction, the measurements and experimental results without and with software correction for CMM type SIP 560 M.
