Torsional VIV Damage Assessment of Multi-Planar Structures

This paper presents the methodology and key conclusions on VIV damage assessment of multi-planar systems from an ongoing study undertaken by MCS Kenny. For a multi-planar jumper system, the three dimensionality of the jumper geometry, results in the coupling of flexural and torsional vibration modes. With the lack of industry tools to account for torsional VIV damage, the study of the jumper system becomes challenging. This paper presents a detailed methodology that may be followed to characterize multi-mode torsional damage of the system.
