Management of Design Documentation Where Do We Go from Here

After many years of debate based upon inadequate information, the body of evidence is now conclusive: The number of errors in the documentation prepared by design consultants for buildings is unacceptably high. Evidence is now available from many sources, and will continue to accumulate as a result of the measurement of non-conformances of Quality Management Systems on construction sites. Whilst there are many other areas which need attention, there is a need for a marked improvement in the way design consultants manage their processes. This paper addresses some of the ways in which design consultancies can introduce substantial change for small cost. However, such change can be very threatening to management. In this paper I have assumed that all of you have a basic knowledge of what QA is all about.
