Performance Interpretation in an Intelligent Help System

Intelligent Help Systems have to keep track of the user’s actions in order to monitor his performance. The help system monitors the performance of the user to detect whether the user is performing up to his level of proficiency with the information processing system. If the user makes errors or operates inefficiently, the help system will diagnose the user actions in order to remedy user misconceptions, or to introduce more efficient ways of performing tasks in the information processing system. The paper discusses performance interpretation in Eurohelp (Esprit project P280).
