Ferroresonance modes determination of single-phase toroidal transformers

The actual high incidence of the low-loss power transformers in the modern electric and electronic installations, increase the risk of the ferroresonance occurrence. This could be commonly triggered by a capacitive switching of the transformers. Consequently, significant overvoltages and overcurents are experienced by all the installation components, jeopardizing their proper functionality. Additionally, this phenomenon is also associated with high order voltage and current harmonics, which adversely spread out into the entire network. This paper predetermines the ferroresonance solution of single-phase toroidal transformers with rated power up to 10 kVA. The study is conducted by solving the nonlinear differential equations system that model the transient process. Thus, the voltage and current waveforms are predicated and critically analyzed. Supplementary, some mitigation solutions to these phenomenon undesirable consequences are suggested.
