Extracranial Carotid Artery Aneurysm: An Unusual Neck Mass in a Young Adult

The spontaneous occurrence of an extracranial carotid artery aneurysm in a healthy 19-year-old woman with no history of cardiovascular disease or cervical trauma is unusual. Aneurysm formation secondary to spontaneous extracranial carotid artery dissection has been described in the vascular and neuroradiologic literature. Otolaryngologists need to consider this entity as a possible cause of a neck mass even in a young individual.
