STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCE OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS

The development of a theoretical based structural performance model and its validation by means of deflection measurements taken on a number of pavements during a three to five year period is described. The model is based on relations that exist between the equivalent layer thickness, calculated according to Odemark's theory, on one hand and the maximum tensile strain in the asphalt layer or the vertical compressive strain at the top of the subgrade on the other. It is shown how the parameters of the model being p (sub n) and s (sub log n) can be assessed from falling weight deflections. Relations are given that permit the use of lacroix deflectograph and dynaflect deflections for the evaluation of pavement by means of the presented Model. The number of the covering abstract for the conference is TRIS No. 393385. (Author/TRRL)
