A finite element model for induction heating of a metal crucible

In support of a combined theoretical and experimental program designed to grow large oxide crystals at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, we have developed a quantitative model of the induction heating process for the Czochralski crystal growth technique. When integrated into the overall thermo-capillary-hydrodynamic model, this sub-model will provide the driving force for the entire process by describing the spatially-varying heat generation rate in the metal crucible. Herein we present the development of this sub-model and apply it to some typical cases of interest.
