Effects of Fresnel lens thickness on aperture efficiency

This paper investigates the effects of varying the thickness of a phase-correcting Fresnel lens on the mismatch losses at the air-dielectric lens interfaces in an attempt to improve the overall aperture efficiency. This approach is applied to a prototype lens designed at 30 GHz. A gain variation of more than 4 dB is observed as a function of lens thickness, leading to the conclusion that this parameter should not be overlooked in the design of phase-correcting Fresnel lenses.
