Geometry-dependent texture map compression

A wavelet-based image compression technique is presented that is specialised for compressing the texture map of a polygonal mesh. It is based on the notion that the parts of the texture that are shrunk in texture mapping can be compressed more than those that are stretched. A measure of texture contraction/stretch in texture mapping is used to determine how many subbands to use for locally compressing texture image with a discrete wavelet transform coder.
