Study on a new distributed power flow control method

This paper deletes the common DC capacitor between two voltage source converters of the unified power flow controller, and the series side of the unified power flow controller is replaced by the distributed series static compensator, which constructs a new distributed power flow controller. According to the characteristic that the integrals of all the cross product of terms with different frequencies are zero, the real powers of different frequency are identical, obtains the conclusion that one frequency real power will not infect on others. The 3rd harmonic currents, which are identical in three phases, are used to exchange the real power between the AC terminals of the voltage source converters instead of the common DC capacitor. Simulations demonstrate that this distributed power flow controller has all of the functions of the unified power flow controller, additionally, due to the independence of the series side converter from the shunt side converter as well as the use of multiple converters at series side, the reliability is improved and the cost is decreased.
