Simulation of the crack propagation process of rock mass based on the finite element method

By using the collapsed singular isoparametric element and the dynamic grid remeshing technique, an ideal automatic tracking method is presented for the dynamic and random process of rock crack propagation,and the tracking program of rock crack propagation is developed and debugged successfully. While simulating the process of rock crack propagation,various engineering factors such as excavation, support,are considered,then the stability analysis of complex engineering rock mass structure and the prediction of the deforming behavior can be made. Calculation examples and an engineering case are given,and the obtained results prove that the presented method is practical and reliable.
