Novel Image Fusion Algorithm Based on Sobel Operator and Region Energy

An new image fusion algorithm based on wavelet transform was proposed to promote the image fusion quality.Decompose the image into high-frequency part and low-frequency part by wavelet transform firstly,then process the high-frequency part and low-frequency part using fusion algorithm,finally fuse the processed high-frequency coefficients and low-frequency coefficients.When choosing the low-frequency coefficient,the method which used is based on Sobel operator,retain the edge characteristics effectively.The high-frequency coefficients are selected with region energy which is maximum,so that retain details and area characteristics effectively.In order to overcome the presence of noise and control of image instability,all the coefficients are subsequently performed by a window-based consistency verification process.Compared with traditional pyramid method and classical wavelet transform,the experimental results show that the fusion rule of proposed method is effective.
