Abstract A tilt sensor based upon a bubble-level principle with a large measurement range has been developed. Compared with pendulum-type tilt sensors, it has the advantage of being free from mechanical friction. The sensor has a resolution of 0.02° and a linearity of 0.4% over a measurement range of 180°. It is underdamped with a damping ratio of 0.2.
