The intrinsic and global kinetics of methanol synthesis from carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen in the presence of C301 commercial catalyst is studied. The investigation is performed under typical commercial conditions in an isothermal plug-flow integral reactor and an internal recycle gradientless reactor for intrinsic and global kinetics, respectively, the two independent reactions chosen for methanol synthesis in this work are the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Reliable kinetic models which adequately describe the experimental results are derived for the two reactions.
