. During t h e International Geoph ysical Year, the Nation al Bureau of Standards established a network of atmospheric noise recording stations t hroughout the world. The AR~-2 noise recorder at these stations measures t hree statist ical moments of the noise: average power! a verage voltage, and average logan t hm of t he voltage. An empirically-derived graplncal method of obtaining an amplitude-probability distribut ion from t hese t hree ~oments , and i ts development, is presented . Poss ible errors, and t heir magnit udes, are discussed ,
