Exploiting Partitioning In Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation (AWE)

Asymptotic Waveform Evaluation (AWE) is an efficient technique for simulating linear(ized) circuits. AWE is typ- ically orders of magnitude faster than traditional methods. In this paper, partitioning techniques for AWE are pre- sented that allow it to handle circuits in partitioned form. Partitions can be handled either at the moment level be- fore AWE'S Pad6 approximation, or afterwards, at the pole level. These methods allow the efficient incorporation of general nonlinearities into AWE, the efficient simulation of both lumped and distributed models for transmission lines, and the symbolic analysis of linear(iaed) circuits. Practical examples illustrate the significant savings in both memory utilization and execution time, as compared to non-partitioned AWE simulations.
