Segmentation Algorithm for Multiple Face Detection in Color Images with Skin Tone Regions using Color Spaces and Edge Detection Techniques

552 Abstract—In this paper, an improved segmentation algorithm for face detection in color images with multiple faces and skin tone regions is proposed. Algorithm ingeniously combines different color space models, specifically, HSI and YCbCr along with Canny and Prewitt edge detection techniques. Improvement over previous approaches by other researchers is demonstrated using example images where segmentation stage is critical for face detection.
